Best Ways To Keep Active In the Winter Months

Winter is officially here, which is great if you love snow sports, but what about the rest of us? If the idea of being indoors for the next 3 months has you feeling down, don’t worry- we got your back. Check out our list of some of the top ways to keep it movin’ until spring:

1. Rethink Winter sports

If you feel adamant that skiing and snowboarding are not for you, explore other winter sport options like ice skating, hockey, or sledding. Yes, it will be cold but it’s a great opportunity to grab some friends and try something new.

2. Train at the gym

If you love the outdoors, heading to the gym may not be very appealing. However, during the cold winter months it can be the perfect setting for you set yourself up for some goals come the springtime. Maybe you want to run a full marathon, or work toward a big climb. Or, maybe you just want to get in shape to take on whatever activity comes your way. Using this time to get yourself fit and ready is a great way stay active.

3. Plan a trip

Warmer temperatures are only a car or plane ride away- use alerts or apps like Skyscanner to find cheap flights to a warmer hiking or camping destination for a winter break. We all need a break from the cold, and what better way to spend it than in nature?

4. Find a new indoor/outdoor hobby

We often think of indoor activities and outdoor activities as being mutually exclusive, when in reality some are not. Yoga, for example, is an activity that you can pick up indoors, and enjoy outdoors when the weather is right.

5. Find your inner survivor

If you’re feeling extreme, you may want to explore the possibility of a survival school. There are options all over the US, some in cold, some in warmer climates. Especially if you are looking to get into camping for longer stints this could be a great way to prepare you for the upcoming season.

6. Create a winter workout plan

Try snow sprints, or a new work plan the incorporates the snow. As the old saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
