End of Summer Family Hiking

I had been looking for a pack that would be a workhorse for my hikes with my son. The Burton Kilo Pack and Beeracuda Cooler Bag were a great resource to carry everything we needed on our day hike.

On our weekend 3-mile forest hike, I did not know what my son may ask for so I over packed; luckily there was plenty of space. When hiking together I find it helpful to make a packing list of supplies:

Water

Snacks

Change of clothes and dry socks

Swim shorts and sun shirt

Sun screen

Bug spray

Reusable bag for wet clothes

Sand toys

Dog bowl and dog’s water

When journeying with a toddler it’s important to make sure you have a contingency plan. You never know what you may run into. This past weekend he decided he wanted to walk on the boulders and I’ve been down this route before, I knew he would end up wet. Sure enough he ended up in the stream. The large pack allowed me to put wet clothes at the bottom and everything else separated on top. Also, with the interior zippered pocket, my phone and wallet were above the rest of the equipment.

I’m excited to use the cooler for beer and waters when I take him disc golfing this weekend. The waist strap will be very useful when I need to be hands-free.

It’s been great to get outside with my guy as he grows. We go at his speed and he really helps me explore the outdoors in a new way.
